In the church where I was ordained it was a special thing. My pastor didn’t look at CVs he instead got in prayer and let the Holy Ghost guide his decisions.
I approached him about starting a women’s ministry. His wife was our piano player and had no desire to do anything else. There were hurting women there.
I stated my case. The pastor said, “So you have a servants heart and because of you background you have compassion for women.” I said, “Yes, I do”
So starting the very next Sunday Pastor told me to get there early to discuss my training. I dressed beautifully. I was sure pastor would announce me as the new women’s ministry leader. I wanted to be looking good.
Well it didn’t start that way. We had a pot luck every Sunday. Pastor directed me in to that area to set up tables, put silverware out, plates, glasses and all the things needed to serve and prepare food.
The next Sunday he asked me to clean the restrooms as it appeared the cleaning people hadn’t done it.
This went on for a year where pastor observed me and my willingness to really serve people. At the end of the year he saw I could be trusted and allowed me to start the women’s ministry. He ordained every minister in that Church, just as Jesus choose and ordained the apostles. It was then, he finally, ordained me as a women’s minister.
Jesus has big things for us. He has places he wants to use us but he is going to test us first to see how we act in the trenches. When we pass these tests then we move on to the desires of our hearts. We must occupy what ever place we are in and do our best to thrive in the place even when it’s not our ideal place.
